Abstract

Physics instruction on alternating current circuits is still dominated by theoretical explanations, resulting in students being less active and their conceptual understanding not yet optimal. Teachers also noted that the available teaching materials are not sufficiently linked to real-world situations. This study aims to analyze the needs of teachers and students as a basis for developing instructional materials in the form of worksheets that integrate Case-Based Learning (CBL) into the alternating current circuits unit. The research design used is qualitative descriptive research as a preliminary stage in the development of the worksheets. The research subjects consisted of one physics teacher and six 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with the teacher and students. The results of the study indicate that physics instruction has utilized experimental and discussion-based methods; however, it remains dominated by theoretical activities, causing students to tend to be passive. Both the teacher and students expressed the need for instructional materials that are contextual, interactive, encourage critical thinking, and foster collaboration. Based on the results of this needs analysis, this study indicates that the worksheets currently used in instruction have not been fully effective in motivating students to connect physics concepts with real-world problems. Therefore, this study contributes by identifying these needs as the foundation for developing worksheets based on Case-Based Learning that are oriented toward contextual learning, critical thinking, and collaboration.
